Giving a name makes it real, as well as something that can be communicated about. This is a constructive achievement. Your first achievement.
MAKE IT OFFICIAL?
Take a photo of your rope and let us know its name (tag us @octomovescom). We highly recommend stating your goals. Doing so in a public space (social media) will oblige you to act and will make you accountable. Think about who you wanna be, for e.g.: I want to be a person who rope flows every day (5 min or more).
ADJUST FOR LENGTH.
To start your practice with rope, adjust your rope length to fit you. The recommended length is when you stand on a rope with both legs and pull rope on sides, handles touch ribs or handles the bottom part is even with your hip. Any shorter rope is considered advanced length. We also encourage you to play with different lengths, knots at different points. Find what you prefer most. Different lengths will teach you different things. Here's a video how to size your Flow Rope.
Now let’s get to the fun stuff. Watch videos and practice moves. Don’t rush through steps. Accumulate reps in each pattern to smooth it out.
SO, LET'S START WITH THE BASICS FIRST.
Rope Flow Cardinal Laws
This rule/parameter will help develop a skill of rolling ropes. It will give us the freedom to flow and express ourselves how we want.
To understand these laws, we need to have a basic understanding of the compass.
Let’s say that straight in front of you we have North and rope traveling underhand (rope is traveling from the bottom up in front of the body) while rolling rope in right hand only.
Now turn your body to the East and you will find the rope in front of your body.
Now turn to the South leaving our hand crossing our body and rope traveling overhand (rope is traveling from the top to bottom in front of the body).
